In Harmony: A Kinetic Sound Sculpture in Action

When the wind blows, the blades sway and hit one another, making sounds. In designing “In Harmony,” I considered the movement of each blade with a range of wind speeds in mind. I chose dimensions for the blades based on not only the aesthetics in appearance, but also on the specs that would maximize the movement.

The sculpture needed to be able to withstand extreme wind conditions. Yet, I also wanted it to move in a gentle breeze. Here is an example of the sculpture in action in heavy wind. Listen to the sounds it makes—something like Samarai swords clashing.
