Family Tree
Cast bronze with hardwoods
52"L x 2"D x 58"H
2016
This sculpture displays many cast bronze tiles--each with a distinct personality. Arranged on wooden planks in an order reminiscent of a family tree.
As I created each tile, I thought of people I have known and characteristics each person demonstrates in their ways of being.
Interestingly, as I cast each piece, some of them came out less than perfect. I decided that this was no accident and used the pieces as they were originally cast. Just as each human has his or her own qualities, so each tile is unique.

Toxic
Cast bronze and cherry wood
9"L x 8"W x 21"H
2018
Toxic waste hidden in barrels does not make it go away. Nor does the toxic impact of a damaging relationship cease to exist.
The results can fester for years and years.

Trophy
Cast bronze and black walnut
14"L x 7"W x 32"H
2016
The distorted cow skull resides somewhere between Georgia O'keeffe and Salvadore Dali's work. The inspiration is the strange event that hunters of big game bring home their prize animal and have the head mounted to hang on the wall.

End of the Line
Cast iron, ash hardwood, salvaged railroad ties
65"L x 12"D x 34"H
2014
This piece is reminiscent of the Old West. The cow skull is rusted cast iron. The rail is created from ash wood and made to look old. The railroad ties and spikes are actual remnants of a bygone day.
This sculpture was recently purchased by the Canadian Pacific Railways and is on display in their headquarters office of Calgary, Canada.

Something Bad
Tulip Poplar wood with steel
53"L x 53"W x 87"H
2014
Created out of rough hewn tulip poplar wood and steel. This sculpture shows signs of destruction and burning that happened within the confines of the strong exterior framework. The wood and steel has been scarred and prematurely aged. The heavy chain suspended from the center is rusted and knotted. The apparent cause of the destruction is unknown to the viewer.
The interior of the sculpture exhibits severe damage done. Little harm shows on the exterior.

The American Dream
Bamboo and salvaged lawn mower blades
228"L x 40"W x 36"H
2013
Constructed from bamboo and salvaged lawn mower blades.
This piece is inspired by hard-working people who climb their way up the American Dream.
Notice how the lawn mower blades that form the rungs of the ladder are progressively more jagged and dangerous the higher one climbs. Notice also that the bamboo continues to grow beyond the reach of the top rung. The ladder is set upon found objects to represent the challenges of starting on an uneven playing field.

Suffer the Children
Welded steel, glass construction block, and mirrors
21"L x 9"W x 9"H
2018
Inside this prison sits a small boy--lonely and crushed. We do not know why he may be there or the cause. The top of the prison is marked by pedestrian footprints that show life goes on as usual for those who refuse to see inside the box below.
Looking through the distorted prism of the looking glass cube, we see the shape of the boy bent in despair.
This sculpture looks at the horror of children separated from people who know them and really care about them. It also considers that there are children growing up in homes where things happen that no one talks about. In either case, the child is alone and left to deal with his fear and pain alone.

Gauge
Mixed media
42"L x 36"W x 96"H
2013
Mixed media sculpture made from cast recycled aluminum (helmet) with pine horns (made from 100 year old house studs), salvaged cinder blocks, construction Styrofoam, duct tape and hard cloth wire.
Many of these materials have been around a LONG time.
The graffiti is layer upon layer and covers a surprise. Lots of symbolism here, folks. If you look closely, you can still see the Pink Panther peeking through on the detail shot of Gauge's upper torso.
Inspired by the awareness that what civilizations leave behind is a message about our current priorities to future populations.

In a good relationship, each person supports and celebrates the strengths of the other. And the combined qualities create more than the sum of the individual parts.

Soul Mates
Aspen wood lathe material, red oak, mahogany, with automotive body compound
78"L x 24"W x 53"H
2013
Aspen wood lathe material construction with red oak and mahogany accents.
The inner surface is coarse and unrefined. The outer surface of each curve is smooth and polished. Painted in enamel on outer surfaces with paprika and espresso colored paints. The paint of each curve is the opposite overlay of colors from the other curve. The curves fully support and help suspend each other with only three small points touching the floor.
White plinth pedestal is also available.
This sculpture is dedicated to my sweet wife, Lina, for her encouragement and support in my work as an artist.
